India @ 60: Some cheers and some tears

We are masters of our own destiny and it has been 60 years since India was freed from colonial rules.

But soon after independence, Winston Churchill remarked saying “Indians are innocent, but its sad to see them being ruled by a bunch of bastards”. I beleive our politicians have spared no efforts in proving him right to the dot.

Economic parameters indicate that India is galloping, but the “so called prosperity” has touched the lives of only a few and I’m not even convinced that indulging in obsessive materialism is a way to flaunt that newly created wealth; it only brings more worries than smiles.

Can you believe that only 14% of the population earns more than Rs.8000 per month? Inclusive growth has been elusive. What are we celebrating?
